Measuring is knowing
As so often it is a matter of doing it. Start by measuring the emissions caused by business travel, set a goal and take action and make choices to achieve this goal. So, it starts with measuring. Measuring is knowing.
Raphide has a budgeting system in which, just as for the financials, budgets can be used for CO2 emissions.
Raphide has a custom configurable dashboard on which statstics, for the current year and previous years, are displayed according to:
- General reporting including CO2-emission Scope-3
- Total annual CO2-emission
- Total CO2-emission per mode of transport: rail, car & air
- Per department, business unit & traveller
- Total distance travelled by mode of transport
- CO2-emission ratio is the weight of CO2-emission per kilometre travelled
- CO2-emission saved for trips < 700 kilometres: Air2Rail
Summary on how the Raphide instrument calculates carbon
Google Maps coordinates for Airports and Train stations
- Straight line distances
- Correct with altitude
- Taxiing at Airports
- FlightAware data (speed, altitude & airplane type)
Rail emissions approach
- Bird’s eye view of the globe
- We correct it with crow flies because trains do not travel straight line
- RRG Oldenburg data
Air emission approach
Regional Airplane < 700 km
European Airplane 700-2500 km
Intercontinental 2500 km>

- Rail & Air carbon Scope -3
- Statistical method and real numbers-based correction for approximating the actual distance travelled
- Audit log and accounting trail
